What to Ask your Insurer

How does it work?

At Hearts and Minds, we believe that psychotherapy is a collaborative process between the client and the therapist. At our clinic, we strive to provide a safe, quiet, confidential space that fosters a culture that is non-judgemental and positive. As clinicians, we do not try to tell you what to do or judge any past or present decisions you have made. It is our job to listen carefully to your concerns; identify what it is you want to change, create goals that are realistic and based on your strengths, and work with you in collaboration to build the tools that are necessary for you to function as optimally as possible. When you arrive for your first session, a therapist will meet with you to complete an intake interview and speak with you about what you hope to achieve throughout the course of therapy.

Please fill out our intake form and bring it with you to your first session. You may also fill it out and email it to us prior to your first session.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions that are required is based on each individual client. Some people who seek out therapy to work through an issue may only attend therapy for 10 sessions, whereas another client who suffered from trauma and who has more complex concerns, may continue to go to therapy for many years. With this being the case, we welcome our clients to work with us for as many sessions as they wish. It is our goal to make your treatment as effective and cost efficient as possible.

What therapy approaches are used?

At Hearts and Minds, we are excited to offer therapy to individuals, couples and families that incorporates a variety of treatment approaches such as; Cognitive- Behaviour Therapy, Behaviour Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Mindfulness, and Anger-Management Programs

Fees & Insurance Coverage

At Hearts and Minds, we recognize that not all people have access to psychological services and we will do our best to discuss payment options that are affordable for you. Presently, there is no OHIP coverage for psychotherapy in Ontario, as a result, you will need to check with your insurance provider to determine the amount of annual coverage you have for counselling services.

Type of Treatment Fee Length of session
Individual $90.00 60 mins
Family or Couple $120.00 90 mins
*Fees do not reflect HST

Reduced rates are available for those who qualify.

What to Ask your Insurer

Before beginning therapy, it is important to call your insurance provider directly to confirm the details of your insurance coverage. When you call your insurance company to inquire about coverage, you do not need to tell them the reason why you wish to visit our clinic. You just need to ask them how much coverage you have for counselling each year and the other details of your inquiry are confidential. It is also helpful to ask your insurance company when your year end is, as insurance companies do not always follow the regular calendar year.
What do I need to do to prepare for my first session?
